Super Star Scientist Taylor!

Objective:  To see if you can make a boat move by adding dish soap to water.

Materials:  Plastic tub, water, liquid dish soap, and a cardboard "boat".

Scientist Taylor was ready to show us his experiment with his goggles & lab coat on and his materials ready!

First, Taylor added water to the plastic tub.

Next he placed the cardboard boat in the water at one end of the tub.

Next, he carefully added a couple drops of dish soap BEHIND the boat.

ZOOM!! The boat moved across the water!

Conclusion:   Adding dish soap disrupts the arrangement of water molecules and decreasing the surface tension.  The boat is pulled towards areas of high surface tension by the water in front of the boat.

 What a fun experiment, Taylor!
This is something we can all try at home!
