Super Star Scientist Anna!

Objective:  Can you make electricity with a lemon?
Materials:  lemons, zinc nails, copper wires, wire clips, a calculator, and a flashlight

Scientist Anna was ready with her experiment materials, safety goggles, lab coat, and assistant, Dad!

First, Anna put a zinc nail in one of the lemons.

Next she pushed a copper wire into the same lemon.

Anna repeated that in lemon #2...

… and lemon #3!

Next she attached wire clips to all the zinc & copper and to the calculator.

Once they were all connected, the "lemon batteries" produced enough electricity to power the calculator!

Anna continued her experiment by adding zinc nails and copper to several more lemons.

Then she and her assistant, Dad, attached the wire clips, but this time to a flashlight.

This time Anna's "lemon batteries" produced enough electricity to power the flashlight!
We turned out the lights so we could see it even better!

Conclusion:  Placing 2 different metals in acid (the lemons) causes electrons to move.  This produces electricity.  It is enough electricity to power small battery powered devices.

Way to go Anna!
You were such a good scientist and teacher!  I can tell you really practiced and learned all about your experiment!
