Super Star Scientist
Cayden!

Experiment: Walking Rainbow
Objective: How the primary colors combine to make the colors of the rainbow.
Materials: 6 glasses, red, blue, & yellow food coloring, water, paper towels

Our Super Star Scientist, Cayden, was set to go with his materials ready and his safety goggles on!

Cayden began by adding red food coloring to one of the glasses...

...then green to a second glass...

...and yellow to a third glass.

Next, he placed the 6 glasses in a circle with an empty glass between the glasses with food coloring.

Once the glasses were in a circle, Cayden added water only to the glasses with food coloring. First the yellow...

...then the blue...

...and then the red.

Cayden stirred them one at a time...

...then 2 at a time...

...then he "multi-tasked" and stirred 3 at a time!! :)

After the food coloring was mixed well in the water, Cayden placed a paper towel from each glass into the one beside it.

We watched the experiment over the next 24 hours.  The water "walked" up and then down the paper towels moving the water and the color between the glasses eventually evening out the water level in all 6 glasses and mixing the primary colors to make the secondary colors!

Take a look at the results!

What a super fun experiment!  We watched the colors mix and the water move right before our eyes!

Conclusion:
The red & yellow make orange.
The yellow & blue make green.
The blue & red make purple.
