Super Star Scientist...
Bradley!
Experiment: Atmospheric Pressure Demo
Objective: How to use pressure to crush a can.
Materials: 1 can, 1/2 cup of water, 1 heat source, 1 ice bath
Scientist Bradley was ready to "experiment" with his safety gear on!
First, Bradley & his assistant, Dad, put water in the can.
Next the can was carefully place on the heat source.
The water is heating to its boiling point.
Bradley's assistant then carefully plugged up the hole in the top of the can.
Once the water was boiling, the can was carefully removed from the heat source and placed in the ice bath.
The can immediately imploded!
Look at how that can was crushed just by the air contracting!
Bradley used safety gloves to hold the hot can.
The class thought Bradley's experiment was VERY cool!
Conclusion:
Contracting air inside the can causes atmospheric pressure to crush the can.
