Super Star Scientist Joshua!

Objective:  to see if we can inflate a balloon by a gas (carbon dioxide) produced by mixing vinegar and baking soda

Materials: water, baking soda, vinegar, bottle, spoon, balloon

First, Joshua stretched a balloon to prepare it for his experiment.

Next, he measured out 1 oz of water...

…and poured it into an empty bottle.

Next, he added 1 teaspoon of baking soda.

Then he carefully added 2 oz of vinegar while his assistant, Dad, got ready with the balloon.

Immediately after adding the vinegar, Joshua's assistant placed the balloon over the opening of the water bottle.

And look what happened!
The gas created inflated Joshua's balloon!

Conclusion: The reaction between the baking soda and vinegar produced a gas (carbon dioxide) which inflated the balloon.

Joshua, you were a great FIRST Super Star Scientist!
Thanks to you and your assistant for teaching us!
