Super Star Scientist
Ethan!

Ethan and his assistant (Dad) were ready to go with all the materials needed for his experiment.

Experiment:  Will it Mix?
Objective:  Do all liquids mix together?

Lab coat…check!
Goggles…check!

First, Ethan put 1/2 cup of water in a glass then measured out 1/2 cup of vegetable oil.

Next, Ethan poured the vegetable oil into the glass with the water.

He asked us, "Did it mix?"  We said, "No!"  Ethan even stirred the 2 liquids and they didn't mix!

Next, Ethan measured out a 1/2 cup of syrup...

…and added it to the glass with the water and oil.

He asked us, "Did they mix?"  We said, "No!"  Ethan even stirred the 3 liquids and they didn't mix!

Ethan told us that the 3 liquids didn't mix because they have different densities.  The syrup is the most dense settling at the bottom and the oil is the least dense settling at the top!

Conclusion:
Liquids with different densities won't mix.
