Super Star Scientist
Caoilinn!

Experiment:  Ink Chromatography
Objective:  The pigments in ink (markers) can be split and move using water.

Caoilinn (and her assistant!) were ready to go with all their materials set out and, of course, her safety goggles and lab coat on!

Caoilinn used the following in her experiment:
blotter paper, water, markers, and a container with water.

First, Coailinn showed us how to draw on the blotter paper with her markers.

Next, she placed her paper in a shallow container of water.

After watching Caoilinn, the students got to do their own drawings.

After a few minutes, we observed the ink on the blotter paper.
(Mrs. Tenery added her drawing to the water!)

By the end of the day, this was what Caoilinn's original drawing looked like!

Conclusion:  When you put the colored blotter paper in water, the ink moves around the paper.

What fun Caoilinn!
We love that we got to participate in your experiment!
