The little things in life…
These 3 were so excited because they got brand new glue sticks!

What an example to remind us to not let the little things get lost amongst all the BIG things that bog us down sometimes!

Through the eyes of Kindergartners, we can sure learn a lot!!

On Friday, to conclude our Plants unit,
we all TASTED the different parts of a plant!

Some of us realized we actually like some of these things!!
(Of course, a little Ranch dressing makes everything taste a little better!)

Root - Carrot
Stem - Celery
Leaf - Spinach
Flower - Broccoli
Seed - Sunflower Seeds
Over the last few days, we've had 2 more friends earn their Super Reader Sundaes!

Way to go Will and Jonathan!
Keep up the Super Reading!

Super Star Scientist
Bella!

Scientist Bella was ready to perform her experiment in her lab coat and goggles!  She also had the following materials out and ready:  a cup, paper, and a bowl with water.

Experiment:  Dry Paper
Objective:  To see if paper can stay dry in water

First, Bella smashed paper...

...and put it in a cup.

Next, she turned the cup over

... and put the cup straight down into the water.

Finally, Bella pulled the cup straight up out of the water, and the paper was perfectly dry!!

Bella let all of her friends have a chance to perform her experiment as well!

 Conclusion:
The air pressure holds the water out and the paper stays dry.
On Wednesday, SCS "Principal for the Day"
Miss Libby Gear
came to our classroom and read to us!

"Principal for the Day"
is an item you can purchase for your child at the school auction!

Super Star Scientist
Christian!

Scientist Christian was ready in his very own Mad Scientist lab coat and goggles!  He had all the materials he needed for his experiment:  pennies, strands of copper, zinc screws, potatoes, a red light, and his element cards.

Experiment:  Potato Powered Light Bulb
Objective:  Can a few pennies, some potatoes, and zinc screws light a light bulb?

Christian had prepared his experiment at home by cutting 4 potatoes in half and wrapping copper wire around 8 pennies and copper wire around 8 zinc screws.

First, he and his assistant, Mom, stuck one penny with wire into each potato and then placed one zinc screw into another area of each potato.

This is what it looked like when they were finished!

Next, they connected the wires to an LED light.

Finally, when he held the wires tight to the light, it lit up!!

Conclusion:
The juices in the potato chemically react to both the copper penny and zinc screw creating an electrical current strong enough to power a small LED.

I have been truly blessed this week by the generosity of ALL of you!
I am overwhelmed by all you've done for me!
Please know that I am the one who is APPRECIATIVE of YOU!!

Thank you for trusting me each day to teach your children…I learn from them daily!
They are reflections of you and it is very evident that you are doing an amazing job at home!  You are raising incredible little ones that are going to grow into wonderful young ladies and gentlemen!

Thank you again for spoiling me this week!

Super Star Scientist
Barrett!

Scientist Barrett was ready with his lab coat, goggles and materials needed for his experiment!  His materials were:  corn starch, water, a bowl, and a spoon.

Experiment:  The Hard Liquid
Objective:  To find out if Oobleck is a liquid or solid

Fist, Barrett poured corn starch in the bowl.

Next, he added water

…and a little more water (with his assistant, Mom!)

…and a little more water, and they stirred.

Once it was at the right consistency, Barrett formed a ball of the Oobleck in his hand…so it's a solid, right?

But wait!  When he opened his hand, it turned into a liquid and oozed between his fingers!  So it's a liquid, right?

But wait!  He smacked it with his hand and it was hard and didn't splatter…so it's a solid, right??  But, he was also able to stick a finger in…so it's a liquid, right??

Conclusion:
Oobleck acts as both a liquid and a solid

Our friend, Christopher, had a birthday over the weekend!
He turned 7 on Sunday, April 6!

Christopher held up his 7 fingers as we sang
"Happy Birthday" to him!

We hope all your birthday wishes come true!

Christopher also lost a bottom tooth this week!
He's really growing up fast!!
